The cheapest Heathrow taxi is usually a pre-booked saloon for one to four passengers. No surge pricing, no peak-hour multipliers, no waiting-time meters running in traffic.

West and north London postcodes are often the cheapest, thanks to direct routing via the A4 and A40. Central and south London come in around the £95 mark. East London is the highest tier, given the extra distance through or around the city.
The saloon from-price is the same in either direction, fixed at booking.

Pre-booked taxis are not the only way to and from Heathrow. Below is an honest comparison of the main options, using current 2026 prices. Each is shown one-way between central London and the airport.
UberX fares to or from Heathrow typically run £55 to £90 for central London. Prices are dynamic. During peak hours, school holidays, rail strikes or bad weather, surge multipliers can push the same trip past £100. There is no fare guarantee at the moment you tap "book".
A metered black cab from a Heathrow rank to central London usually comes in between £75 and £110. Add the £7 Heathrow drop-off charge and a £1.60 rank surcharge to that figure. The meter runs continuously. Heavy traffic on the M4 or A4 increases the fare even when the car is stationary.
The Heathrow Express runs non-stop to Paddington in 15 minutes. A walk-up single is £26 in standard class; advance singles start from £10 if booked 30+ days ahead. The Elizabeth Line is slower (29 minutes) but cheaper: £14.70 per adult, £7.35 per child. Neither option is door-to-door, and both add cost if you travel as a group.
Our central London to Heathrow saloon is £95, fixed at booking. No surge, no meter, no rank surcharge, no drop-off charge added at the end. Doorstep to terminal, with 45 minutes of free wait time if your flight is delayed.
| Option | Typical one-way cost |
|---|---|
| Elizabeth Line | £14.70 adult |
| Heathrow Express (advance) | from £10 |
| Heathrow Express (walk-up) | £26 |
| Uber X | £55–£90 (surge applies) |
| Fastlane saloon (fixed) | £95 |
| Black cab (metered) | £75–£110 + £8.60 extras |
For one or two travellers without much luggage, trains are the cheapest option. For groups of three or more, families with cases, or late-night arrivals, a pre-booked taxi usually works out cheaper. It also wins on certainty: a fixed price beats a meter or a surge multiplier every time.
Every Fastlane Heathrow fare is built from three inputs and locked at the moment you confirm the booking.
Once you confirm, that number does not change. Traffic on the day, a terminal switch, or longer-than-expected motorway hold-ups do not push the fare up.
We track the flight on every arrival. When your plane lands, the 45-minute free wait starts automatically. After that, waiting time is £20 per hour, charged pro rata to the minute. You will not return to find your driver gone.
Cancel for free up to 3 hours before your scheduled pick-up. After that, the booking is non-refundable. Change a date, time or destination by replying to your confirmation email, or by calling 0161 660 9647.
On 1 January 2026, Heathrow raised its terminal drop-off charge from £6 to £7 per visit. The fee applies every time a vehicle enters the drop-off forecourt at Terminal 2, 3, 4 or 5. Heathrow uses ANPR cameras to record entry. A new 10-minute maximum stay also applies, with £80 fines for vehicles that overstay or do not pay.
Fastlane includes the £7 in every fixed fare. The price you saw at booking already covers the drop-off charge. Nothing to pay at the kerb.
Heathrow's forecourts are now drop-off only. Pick-ups happen at the Short-Stay Car Park (SSCP) next to each terminal. Your Fastlane driver parks there. The office emails you the location and bay number. You walk the short distance from arrivals to the car. The short-stay parking cost is also inside the fare.
The £7 is more than the cost of a takeaway coffee. It lands at the most stressful moment of the trip. The kerb, bags in hand, a flight to catch. A fixed Fastlane quote takes that moment off the table.
Saloon fares start at £38 from the closest postcodes (Hayes, Hounslow, Feltham). Most regular UK routes sit between £47 (Windsor) and £314 (Manchester). The exact fare is quoted upfront in the booking widget.
