How Long Does the Journey Take?

About 1 hour 7 minutes with a clear road. Blackpool to Manchester Airport is 58 miles.
That is the overnight and mid-morning figure. Peak traffic changes it.

The Route

Black BMW 5 Series on a UK motorway at dawn during a Blackpool to Manchester Airport transfer

Your driver takes the M55 east out of Blackpool, joins the M6 south at Preston, then the M56. Manchester Airport sits at Junction 5 of the M56.
Some operators list this route over the M61. That road runs toward Bolton and Manchester city, not the airport. The M55 and M6 is the road we use, and it is the one we quote on.

When the Road Slows Down

Plan for longer if you travel during these windows:

Window What to expect
7am to 9am Up to 1 hour 30 minutes
4pm to 7pm Up to 1 hour 30 minutes
All other times About 1 hour 7 minutes

The M6 around Preston carries the heaviest load. Outside those hours the run is one of the cleaner motorway journeys in the north west.

What Time to Leave Blackpool

Manchester Airport asks passengers to arrive two hours before short-haul and three hours before long-haul. Work back from there, then add the journey.

Two worked examples:

Your flight Leave Leeds by
7am short-haul 3.50am
10am short-haul 5.30am

A 3.50am departure sounds brutal. It is also the only way to make a 7am flight, because the first train does not get you there. More on that below.
When you book, we set your pickup using the same maths. You do not have to work it out.

Coming Back the Other Way

The same peaks apply in reverse. A late afternoon landing puts you on the M6 in the evening rush.
We track your flight and set off based on when you actually land. Full details are in the returning from Manchester Airport section below.

Taxi, Train or Coach from Blackpool?

Three ways to reach Manchester Airport. The right one depends almost entirely on what time you fly.

Option Cost Door-to-door time
Fastlane taxi £105 fixed, any group size About 1 hour 7 minutes
Direct train From £7.70 per person About 2 hours
Coach £8 to £35 per person Over 2 hours 30 minutes

The Train Is Good, and It Is Cheap

Blackpool North has a direct service to Manchester Airport station. Northern and TransPennine both run it, roughly every 30 minutes, in about 1 hour 30 minutes.
Advance fares average around £7.70. Our saloon is £105.
For one person flying at a sensible hour, the train wins on price and it is not close. We would rather say that than take a booking you regret.

Where the Train Time Actually Goes

The 1 hour 30 minute figure is station to station. Your journey is not.
You still need to reach Blackpool North with your cases. From Bispham, Marton or South Shore that is 10 to 20 minutes and a local fare. Then you wait for the service. Then you travel. Then you walk from the airport station to your terminal.
Call it two hours door to door, against 1 hour 7 minutes in a car from your front door.

When the Coach Makes Sense

National Express and FlixBus run direct from Blackpool. Fares start around £8, which is the cheapest way to reach the airport.
The trade is time. Allow over two hours and thirty minutes, before you add getting to the coach station. For an early flight that is a very long night.

When the Train Will Not Get You There in Time

This is the part most Blackpool travellers find out too late.

The First Train Is 04:59

On weekdays and Saturdays the first direct service leaves Blackpool North at 04:59. It reaches Manchester Airport around 06:31.
Manchester Airport asks you to be there two hours before a short-haul flight. So that first train only works for departures from about 08:30 onwards.
Flying at 6am, 7am or 8am? There is no train that gets you there. Not a late one, not an inconvenient one. None.

Sunday Is Worse

On Sundays the first train from Blackpool North is 08:58. It arrives at the airport around 10:30.
That rules out every Sunday departure before roughly 12:30.
Sunday morning is one of the busiest departure slots of the week for package holidays. For those flights the train is not a cheaper option. It is not an option.

What That Means for Your Booking

Check your departure time before you assume the train works:

Your flight departs Train workable?
Before 08:30, Monday to Saturday No
Before 12:30 on a Sunday No
After those times Yes, and it is cheaper

If you land in the "no" column, a pre-booked car is not the convenient choice. It is the only one.
We collect from your door at 3.50am for a 7am flight, with the fare fixed and the driver assigned the day before.
Check your own postcode and departure time with our Manchester Airport fare calculator.

Returning from Manchester Airport to Blackpool

Your driver is at the airport before you land.
We track your flight from take-off. Delayed, held on the taxiway or diverted, your pickup time moves with you. The fare does not change.

Your 45 Minutes Free Waiting

Free waiting starts when your wheels touch down, not when you were scheduled to land.
That covers passport control, the baggage belt and the walk out. Most passengers clear well inside 45 minutes. If you are held longer, call the number on your confirmation.

Where Your Driver Meets You

Manchester Airport has two passenger terminals. Almost every airline uses Terminal 2. Ryanair uses Terminal 3.

Terminal Where we collect you
Terminal 2 Express Pick Up, ground floor of T2 West Multi-Storey, signposted P3. Sat nav M90 5PR
Terminal 3 T3 Multi Storey, signposted P14, directly in front of the terminal building

Both are a short covered walk from arrivals.

How the Pickup Works

Collect your bags first. Then message your driver on WhatsApp.
Only then does the driver enter the car park. They send you a bay number. Walk to that bay.
Look for the bay, not for a person. Finding a numbered space beats scanning faces in a busy multi-storey.

Why We Wait Off-Airport

Manchester Airport’s Express Pick Up zones charge from the moment a number plate is scanned, with a 15 minute maximum stay. Overstay it and a £60 charge applies.
Two more charges catch drivers out. Collecting from the drop-off forecourt instead of the pick-up zone triggers £100. And the car parks are barrierless with no pay machines on site, so payment is made online by midnight the following day. Miss it and a £100 Parking Charge Notice follows, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days.
Our drivers do not sit in the pick-up zone burning that clock. They wait in a free holding area five minutes away and come in when you are ready.
You never see any of these charges. They come out of our account and they are inside your £105.
Full charge detail is on our Manchester Airport taxi page.

Landing After the Last Train

The last direct train to Blackpool North leaves Manchester Airport at 23:22, arriving just after 01:00.
Land after that and there is no train home. A pre-booked car is waiting whatever time you touch down, with no night surcharge. A 2am landing costs the same £105 as a 2pm one.
The M55 and M6 are also at their quietest overnight, so a late arrival is often the fastest run of the week.

Where We Pick Up Across the Fylde Coast

We cover the whole coast, not just Blackpool. Each town has its own fixed fare.

Pick-up town Saloon fare
Kirkham £98
Blackpool £105
Lytham £108
St Annes £108
Cleveleys £120
Thornton £120
Fleetwood £120
Poulton-le-Fylde £124

Kirkham is the cheapest on the coast at £98. It sits furthest east along the M55, so it is closest to the airport.
Business Class, MPV6 and MPV8 fares rise from each town’s saloon price. Enter your postcode for the exact figure across all four vehicles.

Blackpool Pickups

All FY1 to FY4 postcodes at the same £105. Town centre, North Shore, South Shore, Bispham, Marton, Layton, Squires Gate.
Hotel pickups along the Promenade are routine, as are Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Blackpool North station and the Pleasure Beach.

Beyond Blackpool

Lytham and St Annes at £108 covers FY8. Cleveleys, Thornton and Fleetwood at £120 covers FY5 and FY7. Poulton-le-Fylde is £124 and Kirkham is £98.
Not sure which band your address falls in? Enter your postcode in the fare calculator for an instant fixed price.

Groups, Families and Luggage

Pick the vehicle by luggage, not just headcount. Four adults with four large cases will not fit comfortably in a saloon.

Group size Best fit
1 to 3 with hold bags Saloon, £105
4 with hand luggage Saloon, £105
1 to 3 wanting more space Business Class, £120
4 to 6 MPV6, £134
7 to 8 MPV8, £162

At six passengers the MPV6 works out at £22.33 each. At eight, the MPV8 is £20.25 each.
Compare that with a family of four on the 04:59 train, plus a local taxi to Blackpool North with four sets of cases at 4.30am. One vehicle from your door costs less hassle and gets you there in half the time.

Travelling with Children

Child seats and boosters are free. There is no charge per child.
Tell us each child’s age when you book so the right seat is fitted before the driver leaves.
Licensed taxis and private hire vehicles hold a legal exemption from child seat rules, which surprises most parents. We fit seats anyway. Our guide to child car seats in taxis explains where the law stands.

Booking and Cancelling

Book online in about two minutes, or call 0161 660 9647.
You get the driver’s name and vehicle registration the day before. You can cancel free up to 3 hours before pickup.
